Miramichi Soil & Crop Improvement
Association
Northumberland Co. is the home of the farms which make up
the Miramichi Soil & Crop Improvement Association. We are a diverse and scattered collection of producers who understand
the importance of soil improvement and conservation as an integral part of sustainable crop production. We have been active
since 1992 in the Miramichi area.
Amoung the activities held by the Miramichi S&CIA are
field days, workshops, machinery demonstrations and meetings.
In 1999 MS&CIA worked with Claude Berthélémé, Regional
Field Crop Specialist NBDARD for an On-Farm Nutrient Management Project. A summer student was hired through CARD (Canadian
Adaptation and Rural Development Fund).
In 2005 the MS&CIA partnered with the Northeast Soil and
Crop Improvement Association to establish the NorthShore Agri-Conservation Club.
2007 has been a busy year for the MS&CIA. With a field
day at the farm of the Farmer of the Year candidate and two separate machinery demo days there has been plenty to see and
lots of opportunities to meet with fellow farm managers.
